Iran is in the news again, with more turmoil following the death of Ayatollah Montazeri (an opposition cleric) and problems over the ongoing nuclear questions.
What doesn’t make the news is the continuing harassment and persecution of Christians. Last week police raided a meeting of about 70 Christians at a restaurant in a city outside the capital. These new believers had gathered for Christmas worship, since they have no opportunity to celebrate Christ’s birth together at home or in a church building. The police confiscated every Bible and hymnbook, videotaped all the participants, and arrested the leaders. Please pray those who are still in custody, and undergoing daily interrogation to learn more about the identity of Christians in that place.
Hundreds of believers have left Iran since the presidential election last summer.
